The Fundamentals of Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity certificate provides candidates courseware emphasizing traditional cybersecurity concepts and principles as they relate and apply to critical infrastructure systems. This course is an entry-level cybersecurity course designed for engineers seeking a potential career transition, Information Technology (IT) professionals interested in pursuing future career progression into the cybersecurity field as well as serving as an essential course for management and leadership professionals already working in Critical Infrastructure industries. A background in IT or cybersecurity is unnecessary to succeed in this course. Beyond the application of cybersecurity principles and practices, certificate candidates will gain a solid understanding of the key cybersecurity issues and trends professionals within the critical infrastructure communities of practice face on a regular basis.

Course 1 - Fund of Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity (CIC-101)

Course Description:

In this course, certificate candidates will learn about the major cybersecurity threat areas, their history and current trends. This knowledge is the basis for developing and effective Risk Assessment. The course is designed to provide the foundational core understanding of cybersecurity terms, concepts and principles essential to facilitate conceptual learning across the curriculum. Since Access Control through the control of access to information/data is the fundamental basis for cybersecurity, then the study of cryptography and encryption makes sense as it is the basis for ensuring the security of information both in transit and at rest.

Course 2 - Introduction to Networks and Network Security (CIC-102)

Course Description:

In this course, certificate candidates will learn about Networking Fundamentals with regards to components, architecture, packet and router theory, and basic network defense concepts. Additional topics focus on Wireless, Cloud, IoT, Mobility, Remote Access, and SCADA Systems and their respective defensive issues and considerations. The course concludes with a section on Current and Future Technology, Tools and Software approaches to maintaining cutting edge defense while balancing budgets and assurance.

Course 3 - Cyber Risk Management (CIC-103)

Course Description:

In this course, certificate candidates will learn about Attacks and Attack Methodologies to better understand their adversaries. Emphasis on proper cyber-hygiene and how it relates to the SANS Top Twenty Concept as well as Resiliency as it pertains to Incident Response and Disaster Recovery are covered in this module. Cyber Assurance through accomplished through well-known compliance standards is also a major focus area in this course.

Course 4 - Cyber Defense of Critical Infrastructure​​ (CIC-104)

Course Description:

In this course, certificate candidates will learn about Physical and Network Security Monitoring, Supply Chain Risk Management, Insider Threats, Social Engineering and Third-Part Governance. This final course concludes with a section focusing on Counterintelligence and How to Spot the Next Big Threat Before It’s Too Late.
